Applying to Harris Westminster Sixth Form
APPLICATIONS FOR SEPTEMBER 2024 ARE NOW CLOSED.
Harris Westminster has been created to provide an outstanding academic education for able students living in London no matter what their socio-economic background. All students must meet the academic threshold based on examinations and interview and preference is given to students who have been in receipt of Free School Meals during their secondary schooling. Currently approximately 50% of students come from this group with the remaining 50% representing a wide social and economic range.
Entrance is by academic test and interview. Through the entrance test and interview, we are looking for students with the academic potential and ambition to make the most of what is on offer. Not all students will have extensive knowledge of their chosen subjects before they get here, but we aim to identify their potential and know they will be capable of working at a high academic level once they arrive. Students take two entrance examinations, choosing from their four subject choices and will have one interview on their preferred subject choice. The offer of a place is conditional on performance at GCSE with a minimum requirement of 6 7s-9s including at least 7 (or A) grades in the subjects chosen for study but the majority of students accepted into the school have attainment far above this minimum.
All students at Harris Westminster study four qualifications over two years. This is usually four A-Levels or Pre-Us but we also offer three A-Levels/Pre-Us alongside a joint programme of Core Maths and the Extended Project.
Please note that if you are applying to study two Sciences you must also choose to study either A-Level or Core Maths/EPQ alongside the science subjects.
Students accepted into the school are expected to engage fully with the Harris Westminster ethos and to take advantage of the lectures, societies, competitions, clubs, sports and opportunities to represent the school. Students are also expected to read widely, to complete at least sixteen hours of independent study a week outside their lessons and to use their vacation time constructively (in reading, revision, work experience and volunteering as well as for rest and relaxation).
Harris Westminster is easy to get to using public transport, being close to two tube stations and many major bus-routes. There is no geographic catchment area, and any student living within a reasonable commute of Westminster can apply; however, preference is given to students living in the boroughs of London. Harris Westminster Sixth Form is not faith-based: we welcome pupils of all faiths and no faith.
