Art (Edexcel)
We study Art in order to find innovative ways to observe, describe and change the world around us and our ever evolving relationship with it. We look at how artists and designers have invented new ways of seeing and making, and strive to add our own, unique voice to the conversation.
The study of Art is a lifestyle choice; its resonance stretches far past the confines of the examination room, and encourages imaginative contributions to the discipline through self-motivated and personal production. Whether you intend to capture your ideas on canvas or design London’s next skyscraper, Art offers a route for those intending to apply for creative courses at university, including Architecture and Graphic Design. At Harris Westminster Sixth Form, you leave GSCE art practices at the door, and instead will have the opportunity to engage your fascination with the visual and material world and to expand and develop your work in a truly independent way.
Whilst studying art, we maximise our location in central London to visit top contemporary galleries. Additionally, a trip to Paris, the art capital of Europe, is planned for 2026-7. We have an impressive Art library to support your studies and exploration, as well as our own Basement Gallery space, and the chance to exhibit your work in an end-of-year ‘graduate’ show, to which parents/carers and friends are invited to enjoy a glass of wine, snacks and high-quality student-made work.
Graduates of Art at Harris Westminster have gone on to study at the Slade (UCL, Chelsea College of Art, The Ruskin (Oxford University), as well as winning places at the prestigious Royal Drawing School foundation year. We’ve also launched the journeys of budding architects, with places won at Cambridge, The Bartlett (UCL), UAL, Bath and Sheffield.
