Competition Finals

Harris Westminster students have represented the school at two national competitions demonstrating skills in both Mathematics as well as the Arts.

This week Anna,Chelsea, Ilinca and Danyaal competed at the National Final of the Senior Team Mathematics Challenge, a prestigious competition requiring outstanding mathematical, communication and teamwork skills.  The final was held at the Royal Horticultural Halls, packed with 88 of the strongest teams from around the UK, and consisted of five rounds over a whole day of problem-solving under intense time pressure. Despite the pressure, the team represented the school with great distinction: enjoying the challenge and performing strongly throughout the day (in fact scoring full marks in one of the rounds). As well as the Pure Maths questions, a unique feature of the finals of this event is the "Poster Round" where contestants create a display on a given topic. This year's theme was "Mathematical Structure & Symmetry in Chemistry", where our team produced a wonderfully creative effort.
In addition to Mathematics success Luca Ford did a fantastic job in representing the school at the V&A London Regional Heat of ARTiculation as winner of Harris Westminster’s internal heat. This prestigious national public speaking competition promotes and supports young people to Look, Think and Speak about Art. His ten-minute presentation on ‘Who’s Afraid of Red White and Blue’ was commended by the judge, Jamie Forbert CBE, as being a ‘wonderful’ insight into history, philosophy and issues of art restoration.
